Not even the tournament arc felt standard. YYH still stands out just because of the characters felt like real people with struggles and not just a run of the mill shounen. Looking back, I realize how dark some of these shows were and how powerful the writing was. I'm not quite as into the writing in new shows they have now. I managed to catch up and finish it eventually with purchasing DVDs and sometimes miraculously being awake to catch random episodes.Īnyway, I think it was fun looking back. I hated the show just for that sole reason, because they removed YYH's block right when they were in Chapter Black lol. They replaced YYH's block with Zatch Bell I think and I was fucking livid. You could only catch it if you were up early in the morning around 5 AM I think. Oh but the series just sorta stopped airing at a regular night time, time which was ass. Probably written within in the quiz using song lyrics or referencing a band like Evanescence or MCR. Since it was 2004 with the emo scene happening at the same time, everything I read there was incredibly angsty, gothic, and over the top. Would read a lot of fanfics, good and bad, there was a site called Quizilla which is basically like today's Quotev or Wattpad. Never managed to get my hands on the dark tournament game. One was a crappy looking 3D game for the gameboy advanced I think. I'm sure they both ruined my taste in men lolol.Īlso had a couple of the games back then too. We'd even have fights over which guy we'd claim as a bf lol, my friend claimed Kurama.which left me with Hiei. It was a joy to write about how he'd beat people to a pulp. I legit wrote a pretend interview with Yusuke since the assignment was to make your own magazine. My teacher really let me do a school project based on anime/cartoons then too lol. We'd watch YYH avidly, make ridiculous OCs and fanfics based on the show haha. Me and my friends were in elementary school about 9 or 10. I really loved the cartoons and anime they had on back then across all networks. Saturday morning cartoons were also amazing- Jackie Chan Adventures, Shaolin Showdown, Static Shock.that was just on WB lol. I couldn't sit and watch TV now, but back then I was hooked. I'd go home from school and watch Sailor Moon, Pokemon, Gundam Wing, DBZ and on the weekends YYH, Rurouni Kenshin, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Big O, and Inuyasha.
